Our Denali guide told us this bear is probably a 2-year old and had been recently pushed away by his mother. After two years or so, cubs are forced to leave their mom and she goes in search of making another baby. This dude was probably still pouting at having been abandoned by his mom and was sulking in the sun. I think he needs a hug....but NOT by me!
